Industrial visit to Nahar Spinning Mills Ltd.

It is very rightly said that practical knowledge always add value to the theoretical concepts. It also enhances one’s knowledge and helps in clearing the doubts. Taking an initiative in this direction, BFCMT organizes various industrial visits for the students so that they get the first hand experience of the corporate world and also prepare themselves for their careers ahead.

One such visit was organized for the students of final year MBA on 28th September, 2013. The students reached the destination Nahar Spinning Mills, Ludhiana with their faculty members Mr. Sandeep Arora and Ms. Virpal Kaur. Dressed in the college uniform, the students were excited and all charged up for the day ahead. Reaching the destination, the company officials received the students who were then made to visit manufacturing unit and learnt about the whole manufacturing process. The unit has an annual production capacity of 75 M.T. An ISO 9002 company, it has 7 multi location plants, a range of products, over 60% of which is aimed at export markets – USA, UK, France, Brazil, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Hondurus, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Netherlands, Japan, Canada, Korea, Taiwan, Hongkong, Singapore, Egypt and Russia. Seeing how cotton gets converted to thread was indeed very interesting.

The whole plant was spectacularly clean and almost completely automated. They also learnt the importance of how the organization made sure that they ensure the best quality. This practical experience was followed by a questioning session. Student mind is always inquisitive and their queries were answered by none other than Mr. Awasthi, GM of the plant. His association of 21 years with Nahar group aptly made him right person for the session. Mr. Awasthi answered the queries of students regarding the major challenges faced by company, impact of external factors on the business model and social responsibility etc. He not only cleared the doubts of the students; but also motivated them. That was indeed an inspiring session. He guided them to be humble, honest and always knowledge seeking. Saving on the time, the students were provided with the refreshments during this session. The session ended with a poem of Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan; it was like an icing on the cake.

The students and faculty members thanked the GM of the plant for his time and knowledgeable words. This visit provided a practical exposure to the students and also inspired them to be better human beings. Thus, a commendable effort!.
